Real Wedding: Thomas and Alice at Winkworth Farm
We love cake at Whitewed and the naked cake trend is as strong as ever. And with cake designers like Hannah Culley's Cakes producing showstoppers like this, it's no surprise! Here's what Hannah had to say about her latest wedding...
"Alice and Tom contacted me back in September last year, a lovely email came into my inbox to enquire about a semi-naked cake with fresh flowers, probably one of my favourite type of wedding cake to do as they are so diverse and you can tie in pretty much anything you like such as colours of flowers, how 'naked' you want it and so on...
When I first met them both they were super relaxed but also knew what they wanted which is a great combination, their florist was Rosy Lea in Wroughton so that was also another huge positive to incorporate my good friend & fellow Whitewed member's beautiful florals on their cake. They had two cupcake taster boxes consisting of six flavours, after a lovely consultation with them a few weeks went by and I heard back from them, they wanted to proceed, yay! Always makes me smile when I have the 'follow-up' email response and it's even better when they are happy... they chose the 3 flavours for their 10", 8" and 6" round cake which typically feeds between 70-90 portions (depending on how generous the slices are) and they decided on chocolate Oreo, Victoria sponge and salted caramel which is probably one of my most popular flavours!
Their theme was quite rustic to tie in with the beautiful setting of their venue so they also chose a wooden Mr and Mrs topper and also hired a wooden log stand from myself (available for a £25 hire deposit). The booking was confirmed by Christmas and April soon came by very quickly! They requested the flowers on the bottom tier arranged in a small bunch and I added the extra special touch of silver glitter ribbon, the ribbon was even noted in their 5 star review they gave me - "she added some finishing touches to the design which looked amazing!" so it's lovely to know something so simple was noticed! The day in April arrived, an overcast day but when I arrived at the venue with the cake it was like sunshine, so bright and decorated beautifully. I set up the cake in the corner at the end of the top table, it was a morning delivery ready for the day and was organised with Alice and Tom and the caterers a few weeks before leaving the bride and groom a complete stress-free process as their big day drew closer. I absolutely love arranging the cake and watching it all come together, arranging the flowers, placing their topper on and adding a sprinkle of glitter!
Once I was 100% happy with it, I took many pictures, had a quick peak around the venue and left it in place. The stunning photos which I received a few days ago were by the amazing Pickin Images Photography, captured the cake beautifully, I love them! Luckily the sun came out that day and the wedding looked perfect, the bride and groom were happy and I received a glowing review shortly after their wedding day (see below). Alice and Tom were fab to work with and I wish them all the best for the future, their wedding is now in my top 3 favourites."
Here is the lovely review left by the happy couple...
"Hannah recently created and delivered our wedding cake to Winkworth Farm and there’s no better way to say it other than it looked and tasted incredible! We’ve had so many lovely comments from our guests about the cake.
Also, Hannah was able to provide us with a cake stand to match our theme and she added some finishing touches to the design which looked amazing!
From the first consultation with our taster boxes to the finished creation, Hannah was very easy to work with and we would highly recommend her to anyone looking for some delicious bakes. Thank you so much Hannah. We now need another reason to order some more cakes!"
